The rich and dynamic history of The Community House began in 1941 when a group of residents recognized there was a growing need to support and serve the community. Through the culmination of generations of leadership, The Community House meets the daily needs of today’s community in ever more relevant ways. With over 500 spaces available to individuals and families, our residential programs provide people the opportunity to rebuild their lives in a safe and structured environment. In Hollywood, CHC’s Safe Haven shelter immediately provides for youths’ basic human needs and urgent medical care. Once they complete certain requirements, they can get permission to go offsite for school, work or church. The program at Saint John’s currently has 47 participants, including those attending community college and some who are working toward getting their GED diplomas.

The Counseling Center provides highly qualified therapists to offer psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups. Residents of the isolated Willowbrook Corner neighborhood receive opportunities in recreation, learning and education. Specifically, the rule will ensure adequate compensation for home care workers by requiring that at least 80 percent of Medicaid payments for home care services go to workers’ wages. Higher wages will likely reduce turnover, leading to higher quality of care for older adults and people with disabilities across the nation, as studies have shown. States will also be required to be more transparent in how much they pay for home care services and how they set those rates, increasing the accountability for home care providers. Finally, states will have to create a home care rate-setting advisory group made up of beneficiaries, home care workers and other key stakeholders to advise and consult on provider payment rates and direct compensation for direct care workers.
